Dolphin Coast Mile Event Report – Event Six

Despite the stiff north-easterly wind of Saturday having dropped to a light breeze by late afternoon, the sea conditions of early Sunday morning were still somewhat unsettled as the 239 participants for Event 6 of the 2017 Dolphin Mile Surf Swim Series, and a large band of supporters, gathered at registration in the Marine Surf Lifesaving Club.

The many first time entrants, amongst them triathletes preparing for the IRONMAN 70.3 Durban event next weekend, were keen to seek out some of the more seasoned Dolphin Mile swimmers on matters related to open water sea swimming technique. Early indications, due to the wave pattern and shape in the wave zone, were that water entry and exit conditions would be the most challenging of the 2017 Series’ swims, to date, and might prove to be a real challenge to the more inexperienced sea swimmers.
