There is a short run into the water from the beach. The course is rectangular and well-marked with buoys. The first leg is a swim through the surf and away from the beach. You swim in an anticlockwise direction making left-hand turns around easily sighted buoys. The Hobie Beach Pier marks the end-point, with a final short run up the beach to the finish line. The 3,000 metre swim consists of three-laps of the same rectangular course.
