The first stretch of the course goes directly out from the shoreline in the opposite direction to the Midmar Mile. At the first buoy the course turns 90 degrees to the left and on to the second buoy. The third and final leg leads you to the finish up the main Yacht club slipway. Munro Bay is the small bay next to the finish.

FACILITES

The event facilities are good with permanent ablution blocks. There is ample parking close to the course. There is some shade but it goes quickly, so bring umbrellas and sun protection. Meals and refreshments are on sale throughout the day.

EDITORS NOTES

The swim is organised by the Sunday Tribune Penguins Swimming Club and was first held in 1993. The Capital K has established itself as a favourite on the swimming calendar over the last 24 years. The event forms part of the two day Capital Challenge. The first day includes running, walking and cycling and the swim takes place on Sunday. Both the 10,000 and 3,000 metre swims serve as official KZN Championship events.

EDITORS NOTES

Midmar Dam involves a four to five hour drive from Johannesburg which does mean taking the weekend. Given the spectator support and level of organisation it is worthwhile and rewarding. All the 1,000 metre swims are used as seeding events for the 2018 Midmar Mile.
